NEW FOR 2011

Jax has been working with clay for over 20 years and is delighted to be able to offer this opportunity for young and old to come and 'have-a-go'

We offer classes and workshops to cater for all ages and abilities.  Individual tuition is available if required and whether you are 5 or 95 we can create the right sort of class for you.  It is also a great family experience where each member of the family can work on their own pots or create a family keepsake to which everyone has contributed.

Our workshops are on a ratio of 1 instructor to 8 people allowing for individual tuition.  The price for each workshop includes glazing and firing as indicated.

When you first make a pot from clay, it is called 'greenware'. A first firing of this creates 'bisque' or 'biscuit-ware'. At this point the pot is hard, but still porous so cannot be used with liquids. After glazing, a second firing makes your pot waterproof and food-safe.

£10.00 per person includes all materials and first firing

This is a two hour workshop during which you will learn a basic hand-building technique to make your own pot, for example: plant pot, mask, mug, 'Mr Potato Head' character or money box.

Your finished pot must be totally dry before it can be fired.  This can take up to a couple of weeks depending on the size of the pot and the humidity, after which your pot will be ready to collect or we can post it on to you, charged at the standard postage rate.

If you would like your pottery glazed, we offer the following options:

1) For £3.50 per item, we glaze your pot in a single colour (after the first firing) ...

2) For £8.50 per person, you return to paint your items (after the first firing) using coloured glazes from our extensive range ...

... in both cases, we then carry out a second firing.
